What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is how often your brand is mentioned, and your pages are linked as sources, in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. Think of it as the AI-answer counterpart to your Google ranking, with one catch: they don’t move together. A page in the top three on Google can be missing from every AI answer on the same topic.

No webmaster tool reports it. Search Console folds AI Overviews traffic into regular web search data, and ChatGPT and Perplexity give site owners no report at all. What’s the difference between a mention and a citation?

A mention means your brand name appears in the answer. A citation means the answer links to a page on your site. Only citations can send visitors, so Marvedo counts the two separately.
